Leading Game Design: Creating a Unified Vision through Design Documents
Author: Stetson Miller Date: 04/22/2023
Part 1: The Problem As the lead game designer, I encountered a challenge this week in terms of getting everyone on board with the expectations for the game. Many of the team members were confused about what the game was meant to be and what the overall vision was. This lack of understanding made it difficult for the team to work together effectively and could lead to a disjointed game design.
Part 2: Problem Solution To address this issue, I worked with the team to create a detailed design document that outlined the goals, objectives, and overall vision for the game. This document provided a clear roadmap for the development process and helped to ensure that everyone was working towards the same goals. We made sure to include detailed descriptions of the gameplay mechanics, art style, and narrative, as well as mockups and sketches to illustrate our vision.
